The aim is to disseminate information on innovations in diagnostic and therapeutic methods, conduct longitudinal studies and standardise sampling in the region. The expected change is to advance the diagnosis and understanding of these diseases, which will allow for better patient management and the development of more effective therapies. The expected results are the optimisation of in vitro diagnostic methods for these diseases and the identification of new biomarkers. The added value of carrying out this project on a cross-border basis lies in the collaboration between institutions and specialists on both sides of the border with experience in different fields, which makes it possible to standardise protocols and obtain a wider range of samples, as well as offering a global vision of the situation in the region. Collaboration with patient associations reinforces the active participation of patients in the project. An original aspect of the project is the use of innovative techniques to study misfolded proteins and their interactions. It also aims to assess the resistance of these proteins to decontamination and the risk of transmission by medical means. This offers new insights and knowledge in the field of these diseases. In summary, the project addresses the challenge of neurodegenerative diseases through cross-border collaboration to improve diagnosis, understanding and therapy development. The beneficiaries are patients, clinicians, research centres and society at large.
The NEURO-COOP project has been co-financed 65% by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme (POCTEFA 2021-2027). The objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.
