The Horizon Europe research programme sets out a number of open access requirements through different articles of the grant agreement, both for publications and for research data generated in the projects, which are presented below:

Open Access to scientific publications in Horizon Europe.

The beneficiaries of projects under the new Horizon Europe framework programme (2021-2027) must guarantee immediate open access to scientific publications.
At the University of Zaragoza, the institutional document repository Zaguan can be used.
At the European level, the central repository is Zenodo which allows researchers to deposit research articles, datasets, research software, reports and any other digital artefacts related to research.
As there are numerous repositories, both institutional and thematic: ArXiv, Europe PUbMed Central, RePec, etc.; it is possible to use repository aggregators or search engines which are web tools that allow locating information on the different repositories. Some of the most commonly used ones are listed below:

  • Recolecta: Spanish national aggregator of open access scientific repositories. It was born in 2007 as a result of the collaboration between the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the University Libraries Network (REBIUN) of the CRUE.
  • OpenAIRE: aggregator of European repositories of scientific content that was born to support the implementation of Open Access in Europe.
  • OpenDOAR: a global directory of open access repositories that allows you to search and browse thousands of registered repositories based on a number of characteristics, such as location, software or the type of material they contain.

Research data open by default

As a general rule, HE project beneficiaries must ensure open access to research data by using data repositories.

Mandatory Data Management Plan (DMP)

There is an obligation to produce and keep updated a data management plan (RDM Plan) following the FAIR principles: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable data.
