Start date: 1 January 2023

End date: 31 December 2026

Grant agreement ID: 101072846

The food production and distribution sector is huge and has a significant environmental impact. The European Union is prioritising green and circular innovations throughout the food supply chain. The SERENADE project, funded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, will focus on the end of the food supply chain by developing technologies that address food waste in households, supermarkets and retail outlets. The project's work will cover three pillars: food technologies, sensors and materials. Two innovations will be created: a smart, sustainable, sensor-based food container to monitor food freshness; and a portable, artificial intelligence-based food spoilage analyser to assess the freshness of unpackaged products. In addition, SERENADE will train seven PhD students in various fields related to food and technology, resulting in the next generation of experts in sustainable food production.
