Project summary

Promote the recycling of solid urban waste

In 2020, the amount of municipal waste generated per person in the European Union was 500 kg. Most of this waste was municipal solid waste (MSW), including product packaging, clothes, furniture, household appliances and food waste. However, this waste could have been recycled. The EU-funded REDOL project team will test experimental urban industrial symbiosis solutions aimed at reducing waste generation, as well as promoting its reuse and transformation into new raw materials. REDOL will develop five value chains (packaging, plastics, construction waste, textiles and waste electrical and electronic equipment) for MSW, leading to twelve different circular products. The solutions will be tested in Zaragoza, northeastern Spain, where several revolutionary methods and technologies will be used to demonstrate the approach.
