Implementation of a plan to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change on mountain pastoral systems by improving indigenous Pyrenean cattle and sheep meat breeds.

Acronym: PASTORCLIM
Principal Investigator of the project: Pilar Santolaria Blasco
Contact: psantola@unizar.es

PASTORCLIM has created a working consortium involving livestock breeders' associations (Pyrenean sheep breeds, Gascona de los Pirineos, Bruna d'Andorra, Bruna dels Pirineus and Pirenaica), research organisations, training centres and local governments with the aim of implementing a work plan for the conservation and improvement of local Pyrenean breeds for their pastoral performance, while conserving the ecosystem services linked to pastoralism and promoting the cultural heritage inherent to the transhumance associated with it.

The PASTORCLIM project has been co-financed 65% by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme (POCTEFA 2021-2027). The objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.
