Influence of climate change on the aroma of wines from the POCTEFA territory: Evaluation and adaptation strategies. This project aims to improve the wines produced in the wine-growing territory already existing in the POCTEFA area, promoting sustainability with the use of waste from the agri-food industry.

Acronym: CLIMAROMA

Principal Investigators of the project: Ignacio Ontañón Alonso y Mónica Bueno Fernández

Contact: ionta@unizar.es y mobueno@unizar.es

CLIMAROMA aims to find out which climatic variables are most influential in the increasingly frequent appearance of aromatic defects in wine associated with greening, over-ripening and raisining. In addition, new areas with favourable growing climates with a lower risk of producing these aromatic defects will be sought, and treatments based on biostimulants will be studied with the same objective for existing cultivated areas. Finally, an action and implementation plan will be developed in new vine-growing areas in the POCTEFA territories. To this end, this project brings together research centres and universities, regulatory councils, associations and wineries to form a complementary conglomerate of action and knowledge. This project aims to improve the wines produced in the existing wine-growing territories in the POCTEFA area by promoting sustainability through the use of waste from the agri-food industry. On the other hand, the evaluation of new territories with favourable climates for vine cultivation, together with the transfer of the knowledge generated will contribute to settle population and to maintain the economic and social dynamism in the rural areas where the project will act during the project.

The CLIMAROMA project has been co-financed 65% by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme (POCTEFA 2021-2027). The objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.
