Anticipating and Fighting in a Common Space against Cross-border Risks in the Pyrenees.

Acronym. ALERT-Pyr

Principal Investigator of the project: María Consolación Cristina Nerín de la Puerta

Contact: cnerin@unizar.es

The project aims to optimise civil security missions relating to the protection of property, people and the environment in the territories bordering the departments of Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques with Val d'Aran, Aragon, Navarre and Guipúzcoa. Indeed, this territory is subject to many risks, both natural and related to human activities, which must be managed in a common, coordinated and shared manner.

To meet these challenges, different areas of cooperation will have to be implemented:

-Define the new shared common geographical territory, taking into account the risks identified, the means and the location of fire stations.

-Establish identified and shared procedures for participation, integrating all media on both sides of the border.

-Solve communication and inter-compatibility problems of vehicles, platforms and chain of command.

-Maintain the capacity and technical level of staff to intervene jointly.

-Improve the anticipation and prevention of different risks, by exploiting a large database resulting from the development of new tools.

-Work on new extinguishing techniques to ensure better water management.

The shared management of interventions, on both sides of the Pyrenees, remains the priority to ensure the optimised effectiveness of rescue in the cross-border territory.

The ALERT-pyr project has been 65% co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme (POCTEFA 2021-2027). The objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.
